THERE + ASICS + WMK = SEGD

THERE wins SEGD Merit Award for ASICS.

There were some hi-fives and congratulatory cheers filtering around the studio when we were advised by prestigious international awards body, the Society of Environmental Graphic Designers (SEGD) that our work for ASICS Australia’s new headquarters had been recognised with a Merit Award. Here’s what the Judges had to say:

“One trend that seems prevalent in our profession is that designers will take a stock image, enlarge it on a wall, and believe it is good graphic design. What captured our attention with this project was not simply the use of large imagery, but the successful layering of information that, together with the imagery, made this a meaningful composition appropriate for an athletic company headquarters. It goes beyond the expected.”

We’re quite chuffed with the recognition, and very much agree with the distinguished juror’s comments. It’s quite easy to ‘decorate’ a space with environmental graphics, but THERE’s signature approach of creating Branded Environments goes a step further, with layers of information and visuals that engage, inspire and inform an organisation’s internal culture — all guided by a rigorous understanding of a client’s brand.

THERE Branded Environment

We’ve just had some new branded environment graphics installed in our warehouse studio by friends and frequent collaborators Spike Signs. Our objective was to bring some dynamism and energy to our meeting room, usually the venue for meetings with our valued clients and suppliers.

The graphics reference ‘dazzle camouflage‘ — developed by modernist artist Sir Norman Wilkinson during World War One, as a means of camouflaging ships from the sights of German U-Boats. There’s no chance of missing our meeting room however, and we’re pleased to be ‘walking the talk’ in showcasing how workplace graphics can evoke brand values whilst creating a signature statement within a space.

THERE Founder walks the talk at SEGD

Simon Hancock, co-founder THERE, talks at SEGD's 'EGD Down Under' Asia Pacifc Webinar. During this session he will reveal insights, thoughts and process, stemming from over 10yrs of signage experience.

Their bold use of color and typography, elegant integration of cultural influences, and innovative applications of scaled graphics have created some amazing public spaces and attracted worldwide attention.

What are the secrets to their success Down Under? Is it all about big budgets? More design freedom? Less regulation? You may be surprised at some of the answers next Thursday, February 21, when award-winning design firms THERE and Heine Jones share their work.

You'll see pretty pictures, for sure. But you'll also gain insights about the ideas, budgets, client relationships, and processes behind their award-winning work.

THERE supports Dance for Life 2013

THERE are very proud to be involved this year as creative partner – having created the event's flexible brand, themed 2013 identity, Art direction of imagery and supporting collateral invitations.

Dance for Life is an annual themed dance event / competition that has been developed by the A&D sector's Ontera, Instyle and JSB Lighting.

THERE are very proud to be involved as creative partner – having created the event identity, primary event image and supporting collateral for website, invitations and banners.

The focus of the event is to create an entertaining and fun night out for specifying Architects and Interior Designers, while also raising awareness and much needed funds for Inspire, an organisation that works to assist teens and youths suffering from suicide and depression.

In an industry of long hours, deadlines and demands - this is an occasion for busy professionals to take time out socially, view colleagues a little less seriously and meet industry peers in a very memorable way. Dance For Life is a choreographed dance competition between the major A+D practices.

The Inspire Foundation is the organisation behind leading youth mental health service ReachOut.com. Young people's mental health is one of the biggest challenges of our time:1 in 4 young Australians have a mental health disorder and suicide is the leading cause of death for young people aged 15 to 24. Inspire helps young people lead happier lives.

On the night, The THERE team dressed up on theme and had a awesome night of fun. A great effort was made by all, and Team Hassell came out the winner on the night.

THERE Re-invents the Showroom

By Australian Creative

After six years together, an agency gets to know a lot about a client. So when THERE redesigned Stylecraft's website, the agency went beyond the same old same old functionality.

It's not just that the agency streamlined the search and specification of Stylecraft's volumes of products. The new site has also been fashioned into a collaborative productivity tool. It allows designers and architects to collaborate with each other, as well as the Stylecraft staff, to source and select the right product to meet their briefs.

“At Stylecraft the prospect of developing a new website was quite daunting given the product depth and required functionality. I must confess that all of my preconceived concerns, whilst not being unfounded were quickly put to rest as THERE methodically stepped us through how we were going to create not only a new website, but one that was going to be functional, user friendly, device friendly, an important tool for each user (internal and external) and most importantly, reflective of the Stylecraft brand that THERE had helped build over the past six years,” stated
Anthony Collins, managing director Stylecraft, in his applause.

The site makes searching and specifying as fast as possible. This accomplishment answered the major design challenge of the project, and resulted from proper collaboration from all members of the team. “At THERE we build the type of relationship and deep understanding of client objectives, partnered with best of breed design and technical execution. This site was a big effort from teams across both Stylecraft and THERE. The site is beautiful not just in it’s visual simplicity, but our team of designers went deep into the process of using the site to find some valuable insights and brilliant solutions to everyday challenges that confront specifiers,” THERE creative director, Clinton Duncan explained

Users are able to create Collections of products and associated finishes that can then be saved and shared among a design team, or with a Stylecraft representative. There are options for exporting or downloading resourcing from the site - for example the site allows a user to download all images, cad and certifications from a large number of products with a single click of a button, saving the designer hours of tedious work.

“It’s a case of a functionally-rich site, that looks elegantly simple” stated THERE managing director, Paul Taboure. “A combination of intuitive design aesthetic sensibilities, deep knowledge of the Stylecraft business, along with a thorough understanding of the A&D audience, enabled THERE to effectively surpass expectations on a challenging and complex site.”

The site is also responsive to mobile and tablet devices. This was a key requirement as, these days, designers and architects tend to work on site and on the go.
