Hello World!

Welcome to the new (and somewhat improved) THERE blog. As you can see, we've made some changes. Read more.

News
Hello World!
Our new blog aims to be a place for news and views, as well as sharing what inspires us, industry innovations and trends, and sharing a bit of daily life in the THERE studio.

A few years ago, too many, THERE started a blog to accompany our dear old flash website, and after a while, it inadvertanty became our main website — it was simple and quick to post new work, and the magic of Wordpress gave our content great SEO. Whilst it was never going to win any design awards, it was very functional and got the THERE's creativity out to the masses.

Fast forward to 2013, and big things are happening. We have an entirely new website, custom engineered from the ground up. We've worked long and hard to get the CMS just the way we like it, and thanks to our good friends (and studio buddies) at Macadamia for their efforts. The backend of our site is quite sophisticated, yet is so simple to use and operate — it's kind of like a big lego set — we can add and subtract new blocks of content, move them around and reconfigure. It's a bit addictive in fact.

Our new blog won't so much be a place to showcase work - we have an entire section helpfully titled Work, to do just that. The blog content is split into 3 distinct types of content, accessible from the filter links above;

News
This is fairly straightforward; it's news, updates and the latest. It might contain recent awards or publications, events or happenings or maybe new people joining the team. It's a place we can keep you up to date with what's going on.

Views
An exciting new initiative, we've decided to get on to this 'thought leadership' bandwagon. Now that's not to say we weren't always leading, or we haven't been thinking — but what is new, is writing them up as blog posts, and sharing them to the world. These might be articles about the latest and greatest in interiors, design and architecture, or thoughts on what's new or next for branding, or just musings and observations on life as a creative agency.

Insights
Lastly, insights allows us to share a little of the inner workings of THERE, how we go about building our clients' brands, our process and how we get things done. We'll be posting case studies of our work, both how it performs out there in the real world, as well as how it was developed. This is probably the section of the blog we're most excited about, as it will really give you a deeper understanding of how we go about things.

Finally, the new blog format will also allow you to get to know some of the characters and personalities of THERE - we'll be actively encouraging all the team to contribute articles and content. We're excited to be pushing our blogging to the next level, and we hope you'll enjoy reading as much as we enjoy posting.

THERE Re-invents the Showroom

By Australian Creative

After six years together, an agency gets to know a lot about a client. So when THERE redesigned Stylecraft's website, the agency went beyond the same old same old functionality.

It's not just that the agency streamlined the search and specification of Stylecraft's volumes of products. The new site has also been fashioned into a collaborative productivity tool. It allows designers and architects to collaborate with each other, as well as the Stylecraft staff, to source and select the right product to meet their briefs.

“At Stylecraft the prospect of developing a new website was quite daunting given the product depth and required functionality. I must confess that all of my preconceived concerns, whilst not being unfounded were quickly put to rest as THERE methodically stepped us through how we were going to create not only a new website, but one that was going to be functional, user friendly, device friendly, an important tool for each user (internal and external) and most importantly, reflective of the Stylecraft brand that THERE had helped build over the past six years,” stated
Anthony Collins, managing director Stylecraft, in his applause.

The site makes searching and specifying as fast as possible. This accomplishment answered the major design challenge of the project, and resulted from proper collaboration from all members of the team. “At THERE we build the type of relationship and deep understanding of client objectives, partnered with best of breed design and technical execution. This site was a big effort from teams across both Stylecraft and THERE. The site is beautiful not just in it’s visual simplicity, but our team of designers went deep into the process of using the site to find some valuable insights and brilliant solutions to everyday challenges that confront specifiers,” THERE creative director, Clinton Duncan explained

Users are able to create Collections of products and associated finishes that can then be saved and shared among a design team, or with a Stylecraft representative. There are options for exporting or downloading resourcing from the site - for example the site allows a user to download all images, cad and certifications from a large number of products with a single click of a button, saving the designer hours of tedious work.

“It’s a case of a functionally-rich site, that looks elegantly simple” stated THERE managing director, Paul Taboure. “A combination of intuitive design aesthetic sensibilities, deep knowledge of the Stylecraft business, along with a thorough understanding of the A&D audience, enabled THERE to effectively surpass expectations on a challenging and complex site.”

The site is also responsive to mobile and tablet devices. This was a key requirement as, these days, designers and architects tend to work on site and on the go.

THERE wins NSW tender with Property Agents McGrath

We are pleased to anounce that THERE have ben appointed along with Property Agent heavy-weights McGrath, to with the positioning and strategic marketing campaign for a brand new land release by Ku-ring-gai Council

The site, owned jointly by Council and the NSW Department of Planning, was previously part of the planned B2 road corridor to link the F3 and M2 motorways. This option was abandoned by the then state government in 1996.

Work has begun on a 26 lot residential land subdivision in South Turramurra - a rare opportunity to purchase new residential land in Ku-ring-gai.

Through THERE facilating a naming evaluation process and criteria, the site has been determined as Turramurra Way.

Nestled within one of Sydney's premier Garden and National Park suburbs… Turramurra Way is a limited land offer that represents the final piece in the beautiful suburb South Turramurra.

A limited number of generous single dwelling land lots are being released for the first time, fully serviced and ready-to-build on. Situated  in a leafy, sought-after pocket, that combines lifestyle, established community, connectivity and comprehensive amenity. South Turramurra offers a family-friendly neighbourhood set amongst some of Ku-ring-gai's most peaceful pocket.

THERE has been commissioned to produce the brand campagn and strategy, local area and lifestyle  image creation, tone of voice copywriting, brochure design, website, print ads, onsite sales display and much more.

The site is being auctioned on November 1 - so watch this space in the coming weeks for the Brand campaign and collateral roll-out.

Test your inner design nerd

The Method of Action site has a range games and tools to help test your design skills and have a bit of fun. The site creates some educational entertainment out of what can sometimes be taken for granted.

The site includes keyboard shortcuts and touchscreen compatibility which adds to the intuitive, enjoyable user experience. You can tell that there has been some time invested with the clean UI design and attention to detail.

The kerning game 'Kern Me' allows you to move a few of the letterforms around to achieve the correct kerning and gives you a score depending on how well you’ve done. It also superimposes your result over the correct kerning to see how you might be able to improve.

Even if you feel like your version is correct there is an option for you to share your version with the site's creator as feedback.

Also not only can you can test your kerning skills but can also test your control with the pen tool.
Happy keming ;)
