BBC Worldwide - the main commercial arm of the BBC - were relocating their ANZ headquarters within Sydney and came to THERE for help in making their new space undeniably BBC.
We were tasked with curating a workplace environment that reflected the huge array of BBC content and shows the company distributed, whilst creating a creative, imaginative workplace in line with the local Sydney team’s ethos.
Our solution centred around ‘domesticating’ the workplace - by curating spaces that were themed around rooms in a typical home but also reflected the culture of key BBC Worldwide channels. Meeting rooms became The Living Room or The Study - reflecting the comfortable quality of BBC First’s home-grown dramas or the geeky docos found on BBC Knowledge. BBC Earth’s focus on the environment informed The Conservatory and a kitchen theme created the backdrop to new team huddle spaces.
2 key placemaking pieces were also designed to activate both the front and back of house.
Within the workplace, The Gallery showcased a wall of picture frames designed to allow a rotating programme of images to be displayed, allowing for staff to curate and personalise their new space. And in Reception, a sculptural feature wall of domestic objects formed the backdrop to visitor waiting. Whilst on first impression the objects appear to be a random assortment of bric-a-brac emerging from the wall, each object actually represents a BBC TV show. Covering a range of ages, demographics and content, a story of the brand’s unique heritage was brought to life through a playful piece with a hidden layer of story-telling.
I can not recommend THERE enough. Their professionalism, attention to detail and quality is second to none. They really go above and beyond and are such a great group of people to work with. I was amazed to see such a vast high profile and client base. I was really taken back by the individualism and design ethic applied to each project giving me the confidence that such a company would be able to help solve our dilemma.
We engaged with THERE for advise and support to really bring our office space alive and help to ignite the creative environment and ethos we had so hoped to deliver to our staff.
THERE were given a very prescriptive brief, with huge ambitious vision but for limited cost. We were presented with an array of options which suited our stakeholder approval approach. They were able to target specific areas of our office and bring these to life Â well within the budget, yet make everything bespoke and unique that had not been seen before.
THERE's commitment and persistence for quality really showed from the initial style frames and sign off to the end product. They are very good at communicating throughout the entire project process, and are very open to suggestions but at the same time justifying why such design decisions have been made or considered.
