IAG – Insurance Australia Group – is a multinational insurance company and the name behind some of the most trusted insurance brands across the Asia Pacific region. In a recent relocation, IAG moved their Australian HQ to the iconic Darling Park development in the Sydney CBD.
As home to a whole house of brands, we were asked to help create a brand-agnostic workplace that would appeal to the broadest range of staff possible – so without any brand cues to reference we instead looked to the local context of Darling Park for inspiration. The geometries of the Modernist towers became the starting point for our environmental graphics, developing a series of patterns based on the forms of the floorplans and unique architectural features. We then applied these graphics to the vast banks of lockers on each floor – using a gridded format of colour and pattern to animate the workplace and activate circulation paths.
Across the 15 floors, we also used colour to differentiate between levels – using studies from Modernist artworks to inspire 5 unique palettes that we rolled out throughout the tower. Each floor takes a different colour from the last, helping to define spaces and aid navigation as people walk up through a new internal staircase. On client-facing reception floors, we maintained a neutral approach to signage, developing up a series of sleek black super-graphics that anchor key spaces and integrate into the classic interior design.
